LEED Certification - Baby Changing Stations

Leed Certification for Baby Changing Stations

The LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Green Building Rating System is a voluntary standard promoting the construction of sustainable buildings that are energy efficient, water efficient, natural resource efficient and minimize the impact of building construction on the surrounding community and the planet.

The products chosen and used during the design and construction of a building allow an opportunity to earn credits towards LEED certification.  These credits are called LEED Points.  Koala’s Baby Changing Stations and Child protection seats allow for points to be earned in two categories:

  1. MR (Materials and Resources) Credits 4.1/4.2 are intended to “increase demand for building products that incorporate recycled content materials, thereby reducing impacts resulting from extraction and processing of virgin materials.” In order to receive Credit 4.1 or 4.2, a building must contain recycled content that accounts for 10% or 20% of the building’s total cost.
  2. MR Credits 5.1/5.2 are intended to “increase demand for building materials and products that are extracted and manufactured within the region, thereby supporting the use of indigenous resources and reducing the environmental impacts resulting from transportation.” In order to receive credit 5.1 or 5.2, a building must contain 10% or 20% of materials (based on cost) that were manufactured or assembled within 500 miles of the building.

LEED® for New Construction & Major Renovations”.

To qualify for credit 4.1 (1 LEED Point) a building must have greater than 10% recycled content.  To qualify for 4.2 (2 LEED Points) must meet the requirements for 4.1 and have an additional 10% recycled content.
